More rereads this week:

12. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
I keep seeing Giles in my head. That's my big takeaway. It's not as fresh as I remember, but I'ma still read them.

13. The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
I did see that Pierce Brosnan played Chiron in the previous movie, now it's Giles. Funny how they are the same, yet different. Heh. N E way....again, not as fresh, but clever. Quick reads.

14. The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan
Honestly? I don't recall reading this. Maybe I started the series so long ago he hadn't finished it! So new stuff. I was big into Greek Mythology as a kid, so this does tend to tick my boxes. It's fun trying to figure out who is supposed to be what as well.

Now I'm reading this: 15. Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley
She uses the same "formula" of going between chapters, between eras. It's a nice device, but could get tiring if one was to read them back to back to back. This is some history I wasn't much into. It's very interesting so far.

I'm off to yoga and then meeting a pal for lunch.

Take care kids!

I do this every time. Every. Damn. Time.

We are having company tonight, rather than do stuff yesterday, I sat on the couch. Now I have a ton to do (and I've already done a ton) and I'm going to be so wiped out tonight. Le sigh. You'd think I'd learn.

In other, startlingly awful, news; seems there is a serial killer on the loose. Two people in another county and two people here. 3 days apart, seems to be targeting "elderly" people. Although one of the women in Minden was only 56. That's younger than me!!

Everyone here is on high alert; don't let anyone in (why would you do that?), keep your cell phone charged, keep your lights on, stay away from Walmart (which was new, and not on the news but I heard it from an "insider" - I'm sure that ticked off Wally World - but there seems to be some kind of connection), and all the usual. There was a huge press conference yesterday with all the combined law enforcement types. Which I found interesting. My insider had already alerted me about it and that the FBI and under cover task force was involved. The press conference confirmed same, if you knew how to read between the lines. Come to find out today that the couple killed here in sw Reno were a high profile couple. Well, that explains the news conference. I'm cynical, I know. But I'm on high alert and all is well.

Back to cleaning!

We had a terrific Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and it's just been splendid all around. As I said, we did get a new computer and it's finally up and running.

I guess I forgot to post yesterday...coulda sworn I did, but oh well! These things happen.

I love Saturdays that start with the "Great British Bake Off" and coffee. Doesn't matter that I've seen all the episodes/seasons (except the new holiday one, I have to catch that). It's also nice to wake up to a pot of coffee already made, thanks to His Lordship still getting up too early for words. ;)

The early part of the day was spent tidying up between watching PBS shows and wrapping a few last minute presents. At 3pm we had to start getting ready for "party day" as His Lordship called it. We had an open house and a dinner to attend. Both were fun and lovely. We got home at a reasonable hour too. Maybe someday I'll have a party here, but not this year.

His Lordship actually slept until 8:30 this morning! That is waay late for him! I've got my tablet all set up to watch the Vikings at 10 (it's not televised here because stupid west coast teams are stupid). I'll text with my fellow fan in Tucson and all will be well. I've got laundry started (I don't want to do it tomorrow - no). We have a few food type things to deliver this afternoon and it'll be a quiet day. The boyz have told me they'll be over tomorrow 'noonish'. We shall see!

And it's Festivus today! So air your grievances around the pole and a Happy Festivus to the Rest of Us!!!!

Well, a 4 day weekend for His Lordship. Me? I'm home all the time!

I went to the grocery today and it was mildly busy. Busier than a normal morning grocery shop. More moms with kids as they littles (and bigs) are out of school for 3 weeks on "winter" break. S'cool. I let all the very busy people go ahead of me. It's the least I can do.

Kids have informed me that they will not be coming on Sunday, but will show up around noon on Monday. I shan't hold my breath, I might turn blue! They both have the "late" gene from my mom. If you wanted mom to show up somewhere at 2pm, you told her to be there at noon. Then she'd be on time. Until she cottoned to that and showed up at 4. She loved to make an entrance, did my mom.

We have two parties to attend tomorrow. One an open house, one a dinner. It'll be fun. I'm ready and we are well.

I hope everyone is enjoying this longest night.

Bless.

...adulted. But first; yesterday.

I did go to coffee with my new/old friend. We went to a 'new' coffee place that was not actually set up for customers to come in and drink a cuppa. Hmmm. But we did and they were very nice about the whole thing. We sat for about 2 hours, drank 2 cups each (I had "dirty" chai and was flying all day). She sprinkles her conversations with "...and the Lord told me..I asked the Lord to....I was worried and the Lord took my fear from me..." I smiled and nodded. Addictive personality indeed. Could be worse, could be crack. I don't think she approves of yoga. ;)

I was pretty done after that and came home and didn't. His Lordship came home and was so very tired, he napped. It was a quiet evening and we watched The Curse of Oak Island. Those people have more money than brains, but if it's still on once His Lordship is retired we are totally doing the drinking game!

Today I girded my loins and did the above mentioned adulting by driving across town to the bank (it was my mom's account). It was much easier than I anticipated and now that is done. I have one more account to deal with (paralegal) and then taxes. What will I complain about when that is over???? ;)

His Lordship and I did some yard work, raking up all the oak leaves on our property. We have no oak trees by the way. But they blow in from the school and the neighbors. There are times I'm tempted to throw them back but...no. One must have good neighbor karma, right? Ammirite?

Dinner is over and I'm not sure about the rest of the evening. We shall proceed.

I'm meeting up with an old friend recently reconnected for coffee/tea at a new place here in town. I haven't actually seen her in years, but we were friends when our kids were small. It's going to be interesting. She was very involved in an MLM when I met her (Amway) and now they have, seemingly, renounced that and embraced and uber Christian lifestyle. I shall remain neutral!

I got 19+ dozen cookies made yesterday, the bulk of the laundry done (still need to do rugs and towels) and we went to dinner at friend's house. It was really a nice, albeit busy, day.

I may go to the bank after coffee, but we'll see how it goes.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Yesterday I finished decorating all the gingerbread snowflake cookies. I get overly ambitious and then....yeah. But they came out nicely. Vikings won, which was fun. I love texting with my friend during the game.

The Heir was supposed to come over for lunch, but Saturday night was the "santa crawl" and as he works at a restaurant....he was pretty tired. He had to work again at 4pm yesterday (hence lunch) and he was too tired. I'm okay with that. Silly kid texted me at 11:30pm to tell me he loved me. I love him too, but don't wake me up!

The Spare was also a no-show as it was the get together with the dad of his friend that had passed a few years ago.

We just plotzed around.

Today I'm making another batch of cookies. We have a dinner to attend tonight. Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend for coffee. 'Tis the season!

Hope all is well!

Ack! I didn't post yesterday! Broke my steak. Ah well. It was a busy day as today will be as well.

Yesterday )

Today I'm baking cookies and His Lordship is off to a friends house to show him his go-pro attached to the MINI. That man. That car. *sigh*

Tonight, we have a party to attend, but it won't last long. My friend who had surgery is having a birthday party for her husband and I don't want to overstay. We made crab dip and it's 'melding' in the fridge. I imagine we'll be home by 9.

I'm off, have a great Saturday my flist!

Day 24 - What challenge are you grateful for?

My challenge the last couple months has been to keep it together during this difficult time. Dealing with all the stuff that goes along with mother has been a huge challenge; but I'm grateful for all that she did for me while she could.

As predicted, yesterday was a chill day. And chilly too! I don't think the temp got over 40 outside and it's even colder today! Brr.

I texted with a friend while we watched the Vikings lose; sad. But it's just a game and it's a great excuse to visit with my friend whilst we commiserate/cheer on our team!

Dinner was in the crock pot (pulled pork) and I made a batch of pitzel dough and rolled the balls. Unfortunately, the boys were late (as they are more than likely) and I was too tired to cook them. It takes a while as you make one at a time on the stove. They needed to leave in a timely manner; dontcha know?

They both said they are looking forward to coming over on Christmas Eve which makes me happy. Possibly sometime this week we'll dig Christmas out of the rafters and get it set up.

Today is laundry and I'll start working on those cookies!

Day 14 - What sight are you grateful for today?

To get sappy - the sight of my family around the table, having a fantastic day!

It really was a great day. The Heir called about 3:30 and said they were on their way and bringing a "stray". Okay by me; everyone should have a place to go. They arrived shortly before 4pm and their pal was delightful. The Spare helped me with the cooking (he's a prep cook and wants to learn stuff) and another friend showed up. We had such a good time! Dinner was only slightly late (darn green bean casserole not being done!), but we still ate fairly timely.

It really was a great day. Today, the kitchen is clean, His Lordship is at work and I'm just chillin'.

Day 11 - What holiday are you grateful for?

The obvious answer is "Thanksgiving". And...yeah. I guess. I'd say it was a toss up between Thanksgiving and Christmas. But you know....I really like Christmas Eve. I've finally figured out how to make my own green corn tamales (I still need to practice wrapping them - good thing they taste good!) and we eat Mexican food, watch "A Christmas Story" - the kids come over and spend the night...it's MY holiday.

I have errands to run and a friend to visit. I'm off!

Yesterday I made dark chocolate Guinness cupcakes with Bailey's cream cheese frosting. A different take on the cake I've made over the years. Who doesn't like a cupcake?

The American version of an Irish meal is in the crockpot: corned beef, red potatoes and carrots with a dash of Guinness. The cabbage will be added later.

I've got Soda Biscuits baking right now; with caraway seeds and currants.

His Lordship's pal W is coming over to help us eat all this food. The leftover cupcakes will be eaten tomorrow by The Princelings. (They don't care for corned beef and cabbage).

We eat pretty good here.

So it's been almost a week since I heard the news and I'm still processing. I've known Jill since I was 15 years old and I'm 56. She was only 64, so just 8 years older than me. *sigh*

I haven't heard any other news, but I found a copy of her will in my files and see that I'm the executor if her sister is incapable. Her sister is flying (or has flown) in from Germany and she will be fine. The whole thing is just surreal.

I met Jill when I was a sophomore in high school and she was my shorthand teacher. We've been friends ever since. I know that I'm getting to "that" age and these things will be happening, but the first one is always the hardest...I guess.

I keep going over, in my mind, all the things we did together, all the fun times we had. All the times we went out and got trashed and then stayed up half the night yakking, falling asleep on her couch (her house was bigger). It's so hard to think that she is gone.

Thank you all for your kind words. I really appreciate my online friends as much as I cherish my real life friends (and sometimes those crossover!).

Bless you all.

Just a short break between tests. I have another at 2. Bleh. At least we got all the technical stuff sorted. The logistical stuff? Not so much.

Thought I'd work on the meme as I'm so far behind.

It only took me four days to fail the post every day thing. Ah well. These things happen.

I didn't get home from the Candy Dance until 6pm, then it was cook, eat, clean, collapse. The temperatures were in the mid to high 90's and the heat sucked all the life from me.

We had a fine time of it though. My friend K picked me up at 10 and it took us two hours to get there (we sat in traffic for close to an hour, it was that busy). We were okay with that though, as we haven't had an opportunity to yack in quite awhile. This gave us the perfect chance. Although the Candy Dance started as a fund raiser for the little town of Genoa (pronounce that Jen-O-ah), it's now a big craft fair. The fund raising part is still the sale of the homemade candy and the local food booths.

The important part is what I purchased. The following:

1. A "spoon" cuff for my friend K in Alaska. She tried to find one here at the Rib cookoff but was disappointed. I was so excited when I found it.
2. A 1961 dime charm. Sterling silver dime. For my charm bracelet.
3. Two leather cuff bracelets for the Princelings.
4. CANDY! Almond Bark, English Toffee, Peanut Brittle and Fudge (no nuts). Nom!

Today was sleep in, do laundry, pick up stuff, make dinner, make tomorrow's dinner, visit mom, run errands. Mom is good. Still big with the paranoia, the losing of things in her little apartment. Still doesn't want me to throw anything away. I managed to pry a newspaper from July 25 off her table and took it with me to recycle. But she's safe and healthy. All is good.

I'm going to watch "Sister Wives" and then go to bed. Tomorrow is gonna be a heck of a day.

How can it be Sunday? It was just a week ago Friday and my bestest buddy from Alaska was here. Man.

It was a great visit. It had been a good 10 years since we last saw each other. She has relatives in Tucson so when she goes on vaca...she winds up there. Back in the day (before I was married w/children) I'd take the whole week off she was visiting and just hang with her and her family. This trip was very like that. She just hung out with us while we did our thing.

She came alone this year. Last time her partner, H, came as well. H didn't seem to like me very much. Personally, I think she was jealous. Which is ridiculous...I'm happily married and don't swing that way. I've known K for 32 years so, yeah, we have lots of history. Ah well. K needed a break from everyone and I was happy to provide.

We mostly just sat on the couch and drank wine. We did go out to eat, shopping, the Rib Cook-off and she even came and visited my mom. She's making noise about retiring here, which I think would be splendid.

Work has been work. My lab is still all fubar'd and I haven't had the time (unless I give them free OT - which, no) to fix the bugs. I wind up rebooting the whole lab after lunch to keep them from shutting down by themselves. I know it's a setting, but I have to drop the Driveshield and do each one (of 33) separately. Takes time which I won't have until Tuesday. Duty has been fairly pleasant. The 6th grade (what is it about 6th graders?) is snotty as ever and doesn't want to follow the rules. We are all being "Positive" this year. I'm positive 6th graders are the bane of my existence. ;)

Tomorrow night we are "hosting" (read - providing the food) for The Princelings Scout Troop's Court of Honor. This is when they receive their merit badges and rank advancements. The Heir didn't want a solo Court of Honor for his Eagle, so his will be at the end of the Troop's. I've been so busy, it works for me. I'm just glad he finished the thing. More about that after the shindig.

The Little Black Dog and I both have stuffy noses. It's very painful to listen to him snuffle and snort. If he's not better by tomorrow I'm calling the vet. As for me? I'm contemplating a neti pot. The Heir has been bugging me to get one for a while now. He's been stuffed up for a few weeks and he's been having nose bleeds. I think it's the dryness, but hey. It can't hurt. It's gross though.

That's all I've got. Boring and mundane, but it's me!
