A Snowy Day 26

Day 26 - What form of expression are you most grateful for?

My first thought was, "Haven't I answered this?". But I guess not. Hmmm. I do like to hear and say I love you. And mean it.

We had our first snow last night and the roads are a mess today. Most schools are on a 2 hour delay and some in the higher elevations are on a "digital day". Seems they (the school district in it's infinite wisdom) have done away with "snow days". Kids have packets or have to get online to to learning and then there will be no make up days at the end of school. I've talked to teachers and they are not amused nor impressed by this. Although they do like the not having to make up days. So, *shrugs*. I'm very glad to be out of it and that my kids are out of it. I feel for parents today though. Really and truly.

The roads are bad enough that police are asking that people stay home if they can so His Lordship called in today. He has some vacation days left, so that's sorted. It's kinda weird having him home in the middle of the week, but in a nice way. He is currently watching a bad sci-fi movie whilst I do my morning routine.

Hmm. We never have snow days down here anyway, but I imagine it's a pain to lose them.

When my boys were in school, heck when I still worked there, they 180 school days had "contingency" days built in - just in case of snow days. But what happens? People schedule their vacations for the 181st day regardless. So no one shows up for those contingency days. Teachers get frustrated and also don't show. I know for a fact that two of the retiring teachers last year got subs for the contingency days as they weren't going to come in. Their whole last month was pretty much dialed in. Sad, really.

And for the district to assume that everyone has access to the internet during the day is...reaching. Not my clowns, not my circus.

We decided, after shoveling the walks, to put up Christmas! Slow and steady. We'll start with the tree!
