I guess my one big regret is not finishing college. Yes, that's right; I are a college dropout.
*sigh*
Here's my story. When I was young I really wanted to be a teacher, a first grade teacher. It sounded so fun and exciting, I could mold young minds! As I got older and into high school my dad and stepmom weren't very supportive of my choice; no money, lots of hours, yadda, yadda. I kicked around some other ideas, went on a few fact finding missions and thought, hmmm, I think being a court reporter would be nifty! Again, not so much with the support. See, being a court report did not require you to go to college.
My dad never got the opportunity to go to university. My stepmother went for 2 years to a fancy ass girls school to get her MRS. They were all about college, college, college. And they, sort of, steered me into computers. Which back in the day was called MIS or Management Information Systems. No HTML, but BASIC, COBOL, SNOBOL, and the ever popular FORTRAN. Do you know how much math and science a person had to know to get an MIS degree? Yeah.
Not being happy with my chosen career path, I pretty much fucked around until it was just ridiculous to stay. I changed majors about 3 times and though I finished 2 1/2 years, nothing could apply to any particular degree.
I'm not necessarily blaming my folks, they did what they thought was best for me. I wish I had stood up to them and followed my heart. One good thing that came about from all this is that I won't push any agenda on The Princelings.
The Heir is a senior and he's getting ready to make some major decisions. If he chooses to go to university...huzzah! If he wants to go to the local community college...huzzah! If he wants to go to trade school...huzzah! As long as he's doing what he wants to do...huzzah! I tell him, make sure you are doing something you really enjoy because you have to get up every morning for the next 30+ years and DO it.
