3 What's the best advice you've ever received and ignored?
They have a choice for dinner; what's on their plate, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (which they can make) or not eat. I always caved. Bad momma. Luckily, neither is a picky eater anymore. Starvation (and having to buy your own groceries/cook for yourself) will do that. Heh.

We had the choice to eat what was for dinner or leave the room. The first time my mom put a whole baked salmon on the table there was a mass exodus. All three of us kids were freaked out by the head. We were not picky eaters.

That's so funny! I think the bones would (do) freak me out more than the head!

We couldn't see the bones yet. The skin was still on. The head with its opaque eye and mouth and gills gave us all the creeps. My brothers and I seldom agreed on anything but there wasn't a word exchanged and we all stood up and left.

I could totally see that. And, as a mom, I'd be torn between laughing my ass off and being terribly insulted!

My mom just yelled "More for us" to our retreating backs.

It really is amazing how much more they will eat when the get to choose their own food. Both mine are getting far more healthy with their choices since they've been cooking for themselves LOL!

I remember when The Spare was wee and I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up (as you do) and he said, "A chef." I told him he better start eating more than orange food then. Now? He's a cook! Maybe someday he'll be a chef!

I'm still fairly picky when it comes to certain textures and tastes. My mom was really good about keeping onions small and hidden. She was also willing to keep bell peppers out of everything.

Oh my! I don't think I can cook without onions, garlic and peppers! Maybe because I'm Italian?

I love garlic!
