Again. It's 31F out, but His Lordship has shoveled. Thank goodness. I just don't have it in me today. We had company last night and I'm still pretty wiped out. Sat for too long in one position and my hip is giving me fits. I'll work it out, but wasn't going to risk it shoveling today.

Don't have any idea if the kids are coming, they can stay home and safe if they choose. Up to them. It's not coming down hard right now and may not. One of my friends said it's like we're in a snow globe here and some keeps shaking it. Boo.

The school district called a "digital day" i.e. a snow day on Friday and then all heck broke loose as the State Dept. of Education says they are illegal and the kids (and teachers) may have to make the day up at the end of the year. I bet the DOE caves and they don't. Tomorrow is a holiday (President's Day) so no worries until Thursday when it's supposed to dump on us again.

And FYI - digital days? For the elementary school (where I have friends with kids still there) the things they were supposed to do? Play a game. Build a snowman. Read for 10 minutes. Uh huh. Just gonna leave that there.

Stay warm and dry ya'll!

But what else can the school do if no one can get there??

The problem (IMO)is that the District is too big...it has over 63,000 students and many, many "zones" that are all in the same district. If the busses, say, can't get out of the yard up the North Valley...but we are completely dry down here...the district still calls a "snow"..er, digital day. Then the parents at 'walk in' schools get mad. Someone is always mad.

Part of our district is up in Incline Village which gets massive amounts of snow. Digital days were piloted up there, but evidently, the district didn't get with the DOE to make sure this was going to be okay.

Unfortunately, we (and by we I mean the entire city of Reno/Sparks) don't have the infrastructure in place to remove snow in a timely manner from all points of the city. It just doesn't snow here regularly enough. This year though...we live in a snowglobe that someone keeps shaking!

It's the same here in the South of the UK - we really don't get much snow usually, so last year when we had a lot (for us) the whole place ground to a halt and all the transport systems get screwed up. I can understand that the government departments don't want to buy expensive equipment to deal with snow when it's not a regular thing, but it's so frustrating!

I don't want to sound like an ignorant east coaster, but I didn't know it snowed in NV. Is this a regular occurrence or is it a freak of nature type thing?

I'm in northern NV, about 30 min from Lake Tahoe. It snows here, but not a lot and not every year. Maybe you were thinking of Las Vegas which is way down south (about an 8 hour drive).

Baltimore County is like that too, just HUGE, so Tim's daughter gets snow days when it's not doing much where she lives because the northern part of the county is covered. Of course, they keep trying to get away with putting in less and less snow days so then they try to make them come in for half days...it is just dumb. They need to go to the same schedule as colleges.

Education in general is in a sad, sad state.

We're supposed to get more snow this week. Wednesday, I think? Ugh. So sick of it.

I like the idea of a digital day.

Now the school board and the board of education are duking it out. What a mess!!

We have another winter storm warning for the mountains, but it's only raining down here. I'm so over winter.
