I couldn't find a Friday Five for last week, but here is this weeks. It just got put up on [community profile] thefridayfive today.

1) Where did you go, and what did you do, on your last vacation trip?
We drove to Wheatland Wyoming to visit old and dear friends. We stayed over in Kimball Junction UT in the snazziest Best Western ever! The drive to Park City, err, Kimball Junction is boooring. The drive the next day from Kimball Junction to Wheatland wasn't horrible. We got to Wheatland close to 1pm and spent the next two days on our friends glorious 35 acre ranch and just....were. It was awesome to spend time with them. We left on Sunday and drove to Jackson Wy to the Grand Teton's and Jackson Hole. Where the rich and beautiful people play. It was a lot like Park City in that it's a ski town, it's touristy and it's spendy. But we had fun. We stayed two nights, saw tons of wildlife, got some great pics and then we drove home.

2) How often do you take trips for pleasure?
We try to go at least once a year. It's easier for just us two as we are easily entertained. :)

3) How much vacation time do you take each year?
Well, His Lordship gets 5 weeks and I had the entire summer off. Now I have every day off! Ha! He still gets 5 weeks.

4) Are you satisfied/happy with the amount of time off you can take?
Yes, now. Then? Hmmm, maybe not.

5) What would be your ideal or dream vacation if money and time were no object?
I would go to the UK and Italy. I would take as much time as I need and visit everyone and everything! It would be glorious.

Those five weeks sound like a lot to most people but with family obli-cations we spent most of them visiting my side and his side. They were not fun, relaxing, recharge vacations like they are now.

Exactly so! Although he didn't get 5 weeks when the boyz were littles. We tried to take them places and do things, but a great deal of that was family obligations (as you say) and they aren't nearly as much fun.

Oooo - I missed these so I must do them too! Is it unusual for HL to get 5 weeks vacation time?

He started out with 2 weeks as is normal (or was back in the day). When he hit 25 years it went to 5 weeks. At 30 years he got a "vacation premium" check. I guess to help pay for the vacations?

Funny story....friends of mine, both teachers, retired Friday. He had 30 years in and she "bought" a year with her pension so he wouldn't be home while she worked (I snort). Both come from families of teachers, know only teaching as a career (or some other type of gubmint work). She just doesn't understand why His Lordship can't retire after working 30 years, even though he isn't 60 yet. I couldn't get it though to her. But she also can't understand why their combined income of over $120K a year makes people think that teachers are overpaid (they both have Master's degrees). It's very insular.

I thought that amount of leave was unusual - Mr Cee’s company is US owned but all the U.K. staff refused to sign new terms and conditions of service when they were taken over because they would loose all their days off and go down to much less.

I can claim my teaching pension when I’m 60 next year but that is because I joined the scheme before all the dates changed. I only worked as a teacher for 12 years but the pension is actually pretty good and I only paid in for half that. I wish I’d known and paid in more! Now you have to wait until you’re 65 or state pension retirement age which is currently 67 for a 40 year old. The official retirement age here is getting later and later - I think they are hoping everyone will die before they claim it!

Mr Cee can retire at 65 from work and get that pension and claim state pensions 66 like me.

I get 4 1/2 weeks. It's really nice.

Yup! His Lordship typically takes a week or so by making long weekends. If his plant isn't too busy, which it isn't.
