Day 29 on a Saturday

Day 29 - What friend/family member are you grateful for today?

I've already answered how I'm grateful for His Lordship, so today I'm going with my mom. She's been on my mind recently. You know, the last 8+ years have been really, really hard. But prior to that she was pretty cool. She taught me to cook, to clean (hey, it's a skill), to sew, to crochet, to try new crafts. She also taught me how to NOT to do things, which is also something we need to learn. So yeah, I'm grateful for mom.

It's a gloomy, grey day out today. It's a tad bit warmer...might get up to the 40's today. No snow forecast until next week, but I'm very okay with that. His Lordship is planning to put up the Christmas lights today; the new Christmas lights!

Back in the day, when we lived in AZ, we had a flat roofed house and we strung the lights around and it looked like frosting. When we moved here, we went to color light bulbs; those big ones that I remember from childhood. Well, the last few years all we (and by we I mean His Lordship as I don't do roofs - that's a big bowl of nopeflakes) managed was a string of snowflake lights on the porch. Kinda sadly festive. I've always wanted to do permanent rope lights under the eaves. This way you don't have to take them down; you can turn them on on Halloween or 4th of July or whatever. I told His Lordship this was THE year! I always get my way - eventually. Heh.

These lights will turn color (I really didn't care about that but he did) so who knows what color they will be on any given night. How fun for the neighborhood! Beats painting your house babycrap brown with dark green trim and a bright blue mailbox. That's what is painted across the street. Yuck.

I might start wrapping presents and doing odds and ends. We shall see as the day progresses.

Smooch!

The lights at your AZ home sound so nice! Yeah lights can be a real pain in the butt. My grandparents put white lights (year round) around their balcony and around one upstairs window so they can still feel festive without having to pay someone to put lights all around the roof.

I love that His Lordship decided that this year was THE year to do the rope lights. They're going to look so nice!

We have one of those light hanging poles that you can make really long to reach whatever height your roof is at (as long as it's a one floor home lol) and we hardly use it lmao. One year I used it to put lights around the front porch and my mom put snowmen ground stake lights out and then WE NEVER PLUGGED THEM IN LMFAOOOO. Clearly we flop at holiday lights lol.

There was a place in Tucson called "Winterhaven" (I think it's still a going concern) and the whole neighborhood put up lights and you could drive through it. Back when I was wee, it was the best unkept secret. Now it's quite the deal with sleigh rides, bike rides, etc.

Lights, gotta love 'em!

That sounds so nice! We have a place like that (but without sleigh rides and anything involving snow etc. since it's been discovered since it doesn't snow where I'm at) called Candy Cane Lane. It used to be a really cool place to go to because everyone went all out with their decorations in that neighborhood and people went caroling etc. It's not the same these days with many people no longer decorating and it getting so badly crowded that there's now a rule that people have to park and walk the neighborhood even though there's maybe a quarter of the homes decorated in a several block radius lol.

No snow at Winterhaven either. The "sleigh" rides are just horse drawn carriage rides. I think they charge now too. And you can't drive through at all. Ah well, things change!

Oh that's interesting! That sounds fun but it's also super crazy. It's interesting how these places change over the years!

Yay lights! I can't even find my Christmas lights and ornaments. We bought a ridiculous hand painted penguin totem pole that's draped in Christmas lights that I think is going to be our tree for the time being (It's five fe.

I love the penguin totem pole! The Spare says the penguin is his 'spirit' animal. So I wrap all his gifts in penguin paper! ha!

I'm glad you were able to get some lights on the eaves!

It's very festive!
