It's been hotter than blue blazes around here. Especially with no AC in the house except the kitchen and then it's freezing in there. Can't win, just gotta vent. Heh.

First reading....I have been and now I have two books lined up and need to get reading!

42. The Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
This is the second book in the Red Queen Series and I must say it's taken an interesting turn. I'm really enjoying this!

43. Christmas in Absaroka County: Walt Longmire Christmas Stories by Craig Johnson
I guess this is book 8.25 according to my library. It's 4 short stories set before and after the current books. More character development.

44. The Heir Apparent: A Life of Edward VII, the Playboy Prince by Jane Ridley
This was on my list (a long list) of books recommended and it finally came up on my queue. It was not dry reading at all, possibly because I wasn't completely sure of the time period. Very interesting take on the life of the monarchy in the late 1800's/early 1900's. Now I want to read about George V and Edward VIII and George VI.

45. Crucible of Gold by Naomi Novik
This is the 7th of 9 books in the Temeraire series. It's been awhile since I've read one. The library didn't have all 9 books, actually skipped 7 and 8. I have to read them in order (of course I do) so I "recommended" them. Now I have 7 and 8 and need to get busy!

Next up, 12th day!

Got up around 7ish as I have a yoga client coming at 9, have to be awake, alert, hydrated and dressed. Heh. Had tea and looked, briefly, at the internet. His Lordship took the day off, so that rather threw off my groove, but I managed. He has an “Art Affair” thing this weekend for our local “Artown” so he had numerous errands to run and left the house about 8:30ish.

My client showed up about 8:45ish and we spent a good ½ an hour talking before getting into yoga. She’s a friend, so we trade yoga for massages (she’s a massage therapist). Since we aren’t, usually, on a time crunch we can spend time yakking. Then we did a routine I came up with to balance all 7 chakras. It was marvelous, if I do say so myself! We both felt cleansed and balanced.

I had planned on the grocery store when His Lordship got home, but man….it was hot so no. I helped him get organized for his show. It got to be up to 80+ degrees in the house (we have no whole house A/C, just a window unit in the kitchen) so we both decamped there for a bit to cool off. I made some quinoa and left it on the stove to cool for the ‘salad’ I was going to make for dinner.

He left around 12:45 to have lunch with a friend he usually sees on Thursday afternoons, I had leftovers for lunch (sausage/pepper pasta) and looked at movie trailers. I really want to see “Mary, Queen of Scots” and “Christopher Robin”. The quinoa had cooled enough so I made the ‘Mexican’ quinoa salad; quinoa, roasted corn blend frozen veg (corn, black beans, peppers, onions) and then added jalapeño feta cheese and chipotle ranch dressing. Put that in the fridge to meld.

I decided if I was really still and just read for a bit I’d be fine, but before you know it, I was out like a light on the couch. I probably took a 2 hour nap. It’s pretty awful as you wake up hot, sweaty and disoriented. The heat wave here is pretty awful. I always argue with my brother (in Scottsdale) that it’s hotter here than where he is….he lives in an A/C house, car, etc. Yes, it’s hotter, but not so much. Anyway, after I got up I got the chicken tenders out and made them on the stove for dinner. We had them, the quinoa and then for dessert we had sliced strawberries with mascarpone limoncello whipped cream. Yum.

After I cleaned the kitchen, it was still so hot, I decided to take a cooling shower to get my hair wet. It had actually cooled down enough for His Lordship to go and wash the car so he did that while I watched “Hook” on tv. I didn’t cry until the very end when the Pan character (Robin Williams) says, “…to live would be an awfully big adventure.” *sob*

10:30, time for bed, still hot, but manageable. Nighty night!

1) If you could be either a fish or a bird, which would you be, and why?
Interesting. I guess a bird. Fish seem...not as long lived? Too likely to be someone (or somethings) dinner?
2) Would you rather it be 10 degrees too hot or 10 degrees too cold? (Does your answer change if that’s indoors or outdoors?)
I have lived in the Sonoran Desert where temps are well in excess of 114 degrees outside. The cost of the AC or evap cooler drives me slightly bonkers. Yes, it's hot here too (one does get acclimated), but it's tolerable. I've always said I like the cold better...you can put on lots of clothes but you can only take off so many!
3) What is the best thing that happened to you today?
The day is only 1/2 over, but I did make a lunch date with an old friend for next week!
4) Is youth wasted on the young? (Follow-up: are you old or young?)
I'm old. At least I feel old. I don't miss the stuff my kids are now doing as I did that (I might even still have the t-shirt). I like to think we are all supposed to be the age we are. Although I will say it does drive me slightly bonkers (puts on judgy pants) to see women older than me trying to dress like they are 18. Just wear clothes that aren't out of the junior section, we'll all be happier. (removes judgy pants).
5) Pasta salad or potato salad?
Potato salad, baby! With lots of mustard!!!!
