12th Day and Reading
Yesterday was the 12th and today is Wednesday/Book/Reading day. So, as far as reading goes:
36. The Japanese Lover by Isabelle Allende
I thought this was going to be another WWII drama, but it was very different. It was more about the Japanese Interment camps interwoven into the story. Honestly, the more history, true history, I read the less I like how things were. Just. No. It was a good read. Thought provoking. Problematic (for me anyway) and touching. I highly recommend this.
37. Hell Is Empty by Craig Johnson
This is the 7th of 11 of the Longmire mysteries. They sure are popular at my library as I'm always on a wait list. That's okay, they don't become too stale. Not that Mr. Johnson is at all repetitive in his narrative (as opposed to some series I've read). Book Longmire is much funnier and outgoing than TV Longmire. I finished this book in one day, they are pretty easy reads. Gripping though.
Possibly tomorrow I'll have a real life update. Not much going on, just stuff. Under the cut is my 12th day.
Alarm went off at 6:50 and I hit the snooze twice, so finally got out of bed at 7:10. Yesterday was the last day of school, so all the little kiddies are abed, sleeping in. I decided today was the day I needed to take my walk early – before breakfast.
I thought I’d be clever and heat the water for my tea in the coffee pot. We’ve done that before and we have a special non-disposable coffee filter for that purpose. Could I find said filter? No. I texted His Lordship and asked him if he knew where it was (as he was the last one to use the coffee maker) and he said no. *sigh* I’m 99% sure it’s been tossed in the trash with the disposable filters. I – just – can’t.
I went on my walk but first went to the school to do my civic duty and vote in the primary. Yes I did. Then I went to the park and did my 1 mile circuit. I think all told I did about 1.85 miles today. Lots of dog walkers this morning. I like it!
Home and did some yoga stretching. Made tea and oatmeal, read the paper and perused the internet.
Decided to be productive and cleaned my bathroom, then took a long hot shower. Bliss. More productivity by going to visit my mother. Kids, she’s gonzo. She’s fine, but every time I go see her there is a little bit “less” of her. I talked to the nurse and he said she was fine except they have to fight with her to take a shower. He said, “I want you to know I use you as a threat.” I told him I was okay with that, do whatever works to make your lives easier. She honestly can’t remember so we’re good. I asked about her pain; does she still constantly complain and he said no. I commented on the outrageous amount of money spend on Lyrica (it’s almost $200 a month WITH her fancy insurance and her total monthly pharmacy bill is never more than $230 – it’s all that stupid Lyrica) and wasn’t it a shame she couldn’t just use weed. He surprised the heck out of me and said that the on call doctor would certainly agree to that. He’s pro-medical weed. I’ma look into that. Lyrica is just so bad for you. And she’s almost 83 years old! I say get her stoned and happy.
After all that loveliness I went to the bank to cash a check. The school district “goofed” and put my longevity check on “..the wrong line..” so I didn’t get the check. Um, really? I have all the time in the world to make sure I get the money I deserve. Ask Allstate. I fought with them for over a year trying to get them to start paying out an annuity to my mom. Why wait when she can use the money now???It’s her freaking money! They just try to wear you down so you give up and they keep collecting the interest on the larger amount. I’m on to their tricksy ways.
Came home after banking, had lunch (green smoothie for the win) and then read for a bit. His Lordship got home around 3 and we did some outside stuff, then he took a quick shower and he went to get his massage and I read some more.
Fish tacos for dinner, blackberry ice cream for dessert. We cleaned the kitchen together – can I just say how nice it is to have a clean kitchen? His Lordship did some craft work in the garage for a bit and I continued reading. I actually finished my book, so we watched some TV for a bit. Bed at 10pm as we both have an early day on Wednesday. Not a bad day, pretty typical.

I hope the medical marijuana plan comes through. $200 a month for one medication is ridiculous.

Marijuana/Hemp are miracle plants in my humble opinion.

Hooray for walks and yoga!
Prescription costs are quite baffling.
Fish tacos and blackberry ice cream sound wonderful though.
