This weeks questions under the cut:
1. Do you mostly prepare your meals at home or do you eat out more?
I do 99.9% of all cooking at home. Since The Princelings have flown, we do tend to eat out a bit more, but honestly? I like to cook and His Lordship likes leftovers for lunch rather than a sandwich every day.
2. Is there a time of day when you are more likely to buy food already prepared?
If by already prepared you mean "eat out", then that would be the weekends. Especially if we are out and about (or on a trip). His Lordship has a pretty set eating schedule (it's a thing) so if we are out and it starts to get close to 11:30-12 noon; he starts thinking about lunch. Me? I could wait until 1 or 2 easily, but...there ya go. I've told him that once he retires that's gonna have to stop as I'm not making him breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. I'm not his mommy (as he likes to remind me on Mother's Day!). We'll see in a few years!
3. What is your average weekly grocery bill (for how many people)?
There are just the two of us and I do plan one weekly meal for 4 (when The Princelings come for dinner). I always try to plan at least one "frozen" thing that can be put on hold in case of eating out or sudden invitations. The weekly menu isn't set in stone, but it's there so I don't have the 'what's for dinner' conversation every day. To clarify, many years ago I started making a weekly dinner menu and then buying only what I needed for the week (I bought stuff for lunch and dinner but it's not on the menu). I also buy almost everything at the grocery store (it's Winco for those curious) and I spend anywhere from $100 to $150 a week, depending on what I need. Example; yesterday I needed laundry detergent and stain stuff (Shout), plus some vitamins. That always pushes the bill up for the week. I know a lot of people think Winco is cheap or dirty, but the turnover is fantastic and every.single.thing is fresh. I went early yesterday and they were stocking shelves. I love my grocery store.
4. What is your favorite meal to prepare at home?
I've said I love to cook, so I love to cook 'for' people. I like to do 'theme' dinners and have done a New Year's dinner of Italian food (lasagna), a luau of Poke and Hawaiian stuff, a county fair themed evening with all fried foods (that was a blast), Taco Night, etc. I just like cooking and baking!
5. What is your favorite meal to order in a restaurant?
I guess I would say something that is really labor intensive to make at home; an elaborate Chinese meal? Sushi definitely (I love it, but I don't make it). We really don't eat out enough for me to choose one specific thing.
