I've done this before, I checked. Back in 2010! Oh my goodness!

Anyway, the date/day of my grocery shop may change, but I still shop exclusively at Winco.

I'm trying (really hard!) to teach myself not to make such huge meals! I'm only cooking for two now! It's definitely a work in progress.

My first grocery shop for the new year was on January 4th. I figured I was safe from the crowds. Seriously, I don't shop, if I can at all help it, on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd day of the month. Too many people. And the lines! Oy.

I buy everything I can at Winco; food (all types), paper goods, vitamins, cleaning supplies, etc. There are a few things that we get at Wally World (i.e. their waters - His Lordship likes them). So bear in mind that I don't go to Costco or the drug store (unless it's for a prescription); everything is Winco.

On the 4th I spent $102.34 and had 42 items. Subtotal was $99.67 Tax $2.67 Total $102.34.

Today I had 44 items. Subtotal $113.24 Tax $1.65 Total $114.89.

So far the month of January has been $217.23. We ate out one time (I didn't feel like cooking, so pushed the menu item to the next day). Not bad. Now if I can keep it up!

So, why Winco -are they nicer to their staff? More environmentally friendly?

Winco is employee owned. You bag your own groceries and they give you cash back if you use re-usable bags. The prices are very competitive and the turnover is huge so everything is fresh. They have gluten free, organic and some local items.

It's just a great store! At least the one I go to is!

Making huge meals isn't necessarily an issue... as long as you remember to take the leftovers for lunch or make things that can be frozen to reheat later. We do that all the time and it works really well.

I make enough for His Lordship to take to lunch the next day. I don't eat leftovers (not that I don't like them - just too much food!), I usually drink a smoothie for lunch. If I make a too large meal, I've been freezing half and having it again in about 2 weeks. That works pretty well!
