I want to get back to posting about more happier things.

I got a notice that a new book was available on my digital library; The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory. I'm not too far into it, but it's okay. I'm reading it as fiction with a slight historical bent. Since it's written in the first person, I doubt the veracity of it. But it's still interesting.

I forgot that I'd finished the 3rd Mary Poppins book; Mary Poppins Opens the Door by P.L. Travers. You know, there is a reason why you don't read these books in a row. They start to become the same. I'm glad I read them, don't get me wrong, but reading all three of those books back to back wasn't the best idea.

Anyway, that's where I am reading wise this week.

It's been a long time since I read the Mary Poppins books. I remember liking them, even though I didn't much like Mary Poppins herself. I wonder how they'd hold up.

I've found it very difficult to read series due to the increasing chances they will start to run together. I never got past the second Harry Potter because the first couple of chapters (don't remember how far I actually got) were so "oh, here we go again. His family is awful, Drago is bully and a jerk, etc." that I lost interest before there was even a plot to follow. Definitely, I think giving yourself lots of time between them is a good idea. Not always - there are some that are so good and so unique that you want to jump right into the next one, but they are few and far between IMHO.

Now series like "Harry Potter" don't bother me quite so much. But when books are formulaic, once of twice a year is fine.
