There is a club for target shooting (and archery) just down the road from us, and every year someone in the latest wave of new residents goes into a tizzy over it. Invariably someone will point at incidents like the one you wrote about as a reason why it exists: "fire season is coming, if you must have a plink do it here under very controlled conditions".
